Heritage Homes Need Wall Review Before Wallpaper
Many Calgary heritage homes have plaster-and-lath walls, old repairs, uneven corners, and paint layers that behave differently from modern drywall. Those walls can be strong and character-rich, but they need a careful installation plan before wallpaper is ordered or booked.
What We Check First
- Surface condition. Cracks, patched plaster, loose paint, gloss, old adhesive, and moisture can all affect primer and adhesion.
- Wall flatness. Older corners and ceilings are rarely perfectly square, so mural layout and pattern placement need realistic planning.
- Product fit. Grasscloth, murals, silk, and metallic papers may need extra expectation-setting in rooms with strong side light or uneven plaster.
Planning the Finish
The right wallpaper can respect a heritage room without pretending the walls are new. Product links, room photos, lighting direction, and wall measurements help determine whether skim coating, sanding, primer, or a smaller feature-wall scope should be reviewed.
