Frosted entry film replacement in Capitol Hill
This Capitol Hill entry door already had privacy film, but the existing finish showed visible palm-print contamination in the glass area. The goal was not to make the entry darker. The goal was to replace the marked finish with a cleaner frosted surface that still kept daylight moving through the foyer.

Project challenge
Entry glass is one of the first surfaces visitors see, so marks inside an old film or on the previous finish are hard to ignore. The replacement needed to hide direct sightlines, keep the decorative house-number graphic readable, and avoid a heavy blocked-off look in the foyer.
Installed solution
The marked film was replaced with Metamark Silver Etch frosted film on the entry door glass and sidelight. The panes were cleaned, the new film was aligned around the existing decorative graphic, and the panels were finished for a consistent frosted appearance from inside the home.

Before, replacement, and detail views
These photos show the marked entry glass before replacement and the finished frosted film across the door and sidelight.

Replacement reason
The previous finish had visible palm-print contamination, so cleaning alone would not deliver the clean privacy surface the entry needed.
Installation focus
The replacement needed clean alignment around the entry graphic, consistent frost density, and controlled edges on the door and sidelight.
Result
The entry now has a cleaner frosted finish that softens visibility from outside while still allowing useful daylight into the foyer.
Planning Note
When frosted film should be replaced instead of cleaned
Some marks sit on the glass surface and can be cleaned before film is installed. Other marks, adhesive haze, fingerprints, or contamination are trapped in the old finish. In those cases, replacement is the better route.
Check the surface
Photos from both sides of the glass help confirm whether marks are on the surface, under the film, or part of the old adhesive layer.
Keep graphics in mind
House numbers, decals, and decorative graphics need to be protected or worked around so the replacement film does not disturb the entry design.
Choose the right frost
Silver Etch-style films work well when the goal is privacy with a soft, bright finish instead of darkening the entry.
